Dawn raid on Mavi Marmara activists! Palestine volunteers detained

As part of an ongoing investigation, detention procedures were carried out against Mavi Marmara and Palestine activists Fevziye Şenoğlu and Sabiha Baturay. According to information obtained, simultaneous operations were conducted on the homes of the two activists in the early hours of the morning.

DETAINED IN A DAWN RAID

A dawn raid was carried out by police teams on the homes of Fevziye Şenoğlu and Sabiha Baturay, who are known for their civil society work and activism activities regarding Palestine.

It was learned that after the two activists were detained, they were taken to the police department to have their statements taken.

According to the report by Daily İslamist, police teams conducted simultaneous operations at two addresses around 04:00. Şenoğlu and Baturay, who were detained as part of the operation, were referred to the police department.

ALLEGATIONS REGARDING THE REASON FOR DETENTION

According to the information obtained, it is alleged that Fevziye Şenoğlu and Sabiha Baturay were detained as part of an investigation conducted due to their recent anti-NATO statements and actions, in addition to their activism activities carried out to support Palestine.

It was claimed that the detention procedures were carried out within the framework of an investigation into the anti-NATO protests and statements held in recent days.

No official statement has yet been made by the competent authorities regarding the reason for the detentions and the scope of the investigation.

KNOWN FOR THEIR WORK ON PALESTINE

It is known that Fevziye Şenoğlu and Sabiha Baturay have been involved in various civil society activities carried out to support Palestine for many years and have taken part in different organizations.

THE MAVI MARMARA INCIDENT

The Mavi Marmara set sail in 2010 as the most prominent ship of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla, which was formed to protest Israel's blockade of Gaza and to deliver humanitarian aid.

In the intervention carried out by Israeli forces against the flotilla in international waters on May 31, 2010, 10 aid volunteers, including Turkish citizens on board the Mavi Marmara ship, lost their lives, and many people were injured.

Following the intervention, which took place within the scope of Israel's blockade policy against Gaza, the flotilla participants were detained, and the humanitarian aid materials on the ships were confiscated.

750 ACTIVISTS TOOK PART IN THE GAZA FREEDOM FLOTILLA

In addition to the Mavi Marmara, the ships Sfendoni, Challenger I, Eleftheri Mesogios, Gazze I, and Defne Y also took part in the flotilla formed to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The flotilla, which included approximately 750 activists, featured volunteers, members of parliament, journalists, artists, and international civil society representatives from 36 different countries.

Commemoration programs are held every year for Ali Haydar Bengi, Cengiz Songür, Çetin Topçuoğlu, Necdet Yıldırım, Cevdet Kılıçlar, İbrahim Bilgen, Fahri Yaldız, Furkan Doğan, Cengiz Akyüz, and Uğur Süleyman Söylemez, who lost their lives in Israel's attack on the Mavi Marmara.
