Death of forest workers brought to the Turkish Parliament

The recent increase in forest fires in our country has become a subject of debate in Parliament. CHP Kars Deputy İnan Akgün Alp has submitted a parliamentary question to the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) for Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı to answer regarding the forest workers who lost their lives in the fires. Alp stated that the deaths were not merely the result of natural disasters, but also a reflection of administrative shortcomings and political irresponsibility.

Alp described the situation as a 'public administration crisis,' stating that sufficient preparations for fires were not made, firefighting aircraft were not utilized, and workers were left without protection or training. Emphasizing that the General Directorate of Forestry and the Ministry bureaucracy are suffering from a serious lack of organization and oversight, Alp directed the following questions to Minister Yumaklı:

"What are the job descriptions and employment statuses of the workers who served in the fire zones and lost their lives?

Who is responsible for the assignment of these workers?

What preparation processes and risk analyses are these assignments based on?

What is the number of aircraft and equipment used before and during the fires?

What are the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's fire scenarios and crisis plans for the summer months?

Have equipment and training processes for the protection of the workers who lost their lives been implemented?

Has any administrative investigation been launched following the deaths that occurred?

Have any actions been taken against the responsible public officials?

What is the justification for the managers of the General Directorate of Forestry and the Ministry bureaucracy continuing in their duties?

Following these deaths, has any consideration been given to resignation by assuming political responsibility at the Ministry level?"
