Death toll in Russia synagogue and church attacks rises to 21
Mavsum Ragimov, head of the Derbent District in Russia's Republic of Dagestan, announced that the number of people who lost their lives in the armed attacks in the cities of Makhachkala and Derbent has risen to 21.

Ragimov stated the following on his Telegram channel regarding the attacks on June 23 in the cities of Makhachkala and Derbent, where a police checkpoint, a synagogue, and two churches were targeted:
"Another young police officer lost his life tonight. He was not afraid to stand as a shield for his loved ones and his country while fighting the threat of terrorism. I extend my deepest condolences to his family, relatives, and friends."
WHAT HAPPENED?
The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs reported on June 23 that unidentified gunmen had carried out attacks in the cities of Makhachkala and Derbent.
It was stated that 20 people, including 15 police officers and 5 civilians, had lost their lives in the attacks targeting a police checkpoint, a synagogue, and two churches, and that 5 attackers had been killed.
Some reports in the Russian press alleged that two of the attackers were sons of Magomed Omarov, the head of Dagestan's Sergokalinsky District. It is reported that Omarov was detained and removed from his post following the attack.
