Debate in the Turkish Parliament over 'Syriac greeting'
A debate erupted in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) after DEM Party Mardin MP George Aslan offered a Christmas greeting in the Syriac language.

Budget negotiations are ongoing in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). After wishing Christians a Merry Christmas, DEM Party Mardin MP George Aslan spoke in Syriac from the podium, stating, "I would like to repeat these words regarding Christmas in Syriac for the Syriac people who do not know Turkish."
Following this, members of the İYİ Party objected to Aslan's speech in Syriac.
THEY PROTESTED
Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Sırrı Süreyya Önder announced that he would not intervene in the MP's speech. Upon this, TBMM Clerk Member and İYİ Party Denizli MP Yasin Öztürk protested Sırrı Süreyya Önder and stood up from his seat.
Önder then suspended the session because the Presidential Council row was incomplete. After the session resumed, TBMM Clerk Member and AK Party Mersin MP Havva Sibel Söylemez took her seat in the Presidential Council row.
