Decision regarding the İZSU General Manager referred to the court with a request for arrest

As part of the investigation conducted by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 10 suspects, including İZSU General Manager Gürkan Erdoğan, former İZSU General Manager Ali Hıdır Köseoğlu, and Gdz Elektrik Distribution General Manager Uğur Yüksel, who were detained yesterday following the preparation of an expert report on the incident, were re-examined by the court after providing their statements to the public prosecutor.

The court decided to release 8 of these individuals, including Erdoğan, Köseoğlu, and Yüksel, on the condition of a travel ban, while placing 2 under house arrest.

Within the scope of the investigation, 1 person who was apprehended in Ordu and provided a statement via the Audio and Visual Information System (SEGBİS) was also released by the prosecutor's office.

STATEMENT FROM MAYOR TUGAY REGARDING THE RELEASE OF İZSU PERSONNEL

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay stated that they were pleased that İZSU General Manager Gürkan Erdoğan and Deputy General Manager Serdar Sadi, who were detained in connection with the deaths of 2 people electrocuted, were released under judicial control.

Tugay, who came to the İzmir Courthouse to follow the process, awaited the judicial outcome for İZSU General Manager Gürkan Erdoğan and Deputy General Manager Serdar Sadi, who were detained as part of the investigation into the deaths of Özge Ceren Deniz and İnanç Öktemay, who lost their lives after being electrocuted.

After the court released Erdoğan and Sadi under judicial control, Tugay, who exited the courthouse with them, told reporters that they were happy with the decision.

Stating that Erdoğan, Sadi, and former İZSU General Manager Ali Hıdır Köseoğlu were detained at a time they least expected, Tugay said, "We received news that they would be detained, and after that, we tried to understand where this originated. We understood that this detention decision was taken based on certain allegations in an expert report."

Stating that Erdoğan and Sadi were detained while on duty, Tugay continued as follows:

"I sincerely thank everyone who contributed to this process. We will continue to do whatever is necessary to contribute to this process with full transparency in the legal proceedings that will follow regarding our citizens we lost. We have a sorrow for them that we will never lose. However, we are all seeking justice. We are also making efforts here for justice to be served. I believe the decision made today regarding our friends is fair. I wish them a speedy recovery. I wish our institution well."

İZSU General Manager Gürkan Erdoğan also thanked those who did not leave them alone, saying, "We have never refrained from giving statements or being judged. We tried to assist the judicial authorities throughout the process. We are happy that the process ended this way. We are extremely happy with the decision made. We will be on duty starting from the morning. We will continue to work with all our might for İzmir."

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

On July 12, in the Konak district, Özge Ceren Deniz and İnanç Öktemay lost their lives after being electrocuted when they stepped into a puddle during a downpour.

Within the scope of the investigation into the incident, 48 out of 51 suspects for whom detention warrants were issued were apprehended. 14 of these individuals were arrested.
