The appeal against the detention of retired Colonel Orkun Özeller, who has been in prison for a month due to his social media posts, has been rejected by the court. Özeller was arrested following a complaint by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli after he criticized the peace process.
INDICTMENT ACCEPTED
The Istanbul 8th Criminal Court of First Instance has accepted the indictment prepared against Özeller. It was decided that the hearing will be held on November 12, 2025, at 11:30 AM. The court did not consider the request for his release pending trial.
NON-PROSECUTION DECISION OVERTURNED
It has been learned that the non-prosecution decision previously issued by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding Özeller has also been overturned. Thus, a second judicial process has been initiated against the retired colonel.
LAWYER REACTS: "NO JUSTIFICATION"
In his assessment of the decisions, Özeller's lawyer, Doğukan Kozan, stated that no justification was provided for the continuation of the detention, saying, "Detention continues, but there is still no justification."
