DEM Party calls on AKP regarding Selahattin Demirtaş

DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğanevaluated current developments during a press conference held at her party's headquarters. Doğan, regarding the release of former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş,stated, "Selahattin Demirtaş's detention must end without further delay. Selahattin Demirtaş should not remain in custody for even one more minute. The requirements of the law must now be fulfilled." she said.

"NOT COMPLYING WITH THE ECHR RULING IS NOT RECOGNIZING THE CONSTITUTION"

In her statement, Ayşegül Doğan drew attention to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruling, stating, "Every minute spent not implementing the ECHR ruling means not recognizing the ECHR ruling and not recognizing the Constitution."

ECHR DECISION ON DEMİRTAŞ

The European Court of Human Rights had rejected the Ministry of Justice's appeal against the second violation and release decision regarding Selahattin Demirtaş's detention. Thus, the ECHR's ruling on the violation of rights concerning Demirtaş has become final.

Following the decision, Demirtaş's lawyers filed a request for release with the Ankara Regional Court of Justice.

STATEMENTS FROM BAHÇELİ AND ERDOĞAN

MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli answered journalists' questions after his party's parliamentary group meeting. When asked about the situation of former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, who is in prison, Bahçeli said, "It has reached a conclusion through legal channels. His release will be beneficial for Turkey."

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in response to a question on the matter, replied, "This country is a country of law. We always abide by whatever the judiciary says."

MINISTER OF JUSTICE TUNÇ: "WE MUST WAIT FOR THE PROCESS"

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç also stated that the ECHR decision would be evaluated once it reaches the 22nd Criminal Chamber of the Ankara Regional Court of Justice or upon application by the relevant parties, saying, "If the ECHR decision reaches the 22nd Criminal Chamber of the Ankara Regional Court of Justice, which is currently hearing the case, or if the relevant parties apply, it will be evaluated by the court. We will all have to wait for this process."
