The Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) has concluded its Central Executive Committee (MYK) meeting. The meeting, which was held with an extraordinary agenda, also included a comprehensive call to the government and the opposition.
According to the report in Sözcü, a written statement in the nature of a 'call' was issued following the meeting, where Bahçeli's notable remarks on Öcalan, the trustee politics that have restarted with the Esenyurt Municipality, and the ongoing process were evaluated.
The following statements were made in the declaration issued by the DEM Party:
-As of October 1, 2024, the discussions that have begun and are continuing in the public sphere, the political arena, and the media regarding the Kurdish issue will also be the subject of the coming days. The DEM Party Central Executive Committee has decided to share its latest discussions and evaluations on this matter with our peoples.
-Like lands longing for water, our country is longing for social peace. We advocate for a democratic and peaceful solution to the Kurdish issue.
-The most deep-rooted problem that Turkey needs to solve is the Kurdish issue. The level the Kurdish issue has reached today imposes a democratic and peaceful solution with all its existence.
-Developments also show that the problem has long since transcended the country's borders and has gained a regional and global dimension. No one who thinks about the democratic and common future of the country can close their eyes to this reality in today's environment of the world and the Middle East.
-It is necessary to take steps for a democratic and peaceful solution to this problem, which is directly linked to and intertwined with the democratization of the Republic. This solution must be based on the participation and consensus of all social segments. Social peace can only be achieved in this way.
-Our fundamental principle for a comprehensive political solution based on social peace and democratic consensus is to resolve our problems not through violence or conflict, but by talking, negotiating, and through dialogue.
-The solution to the Kurdish issue, in its most fundamental approach, requires the construction of a democratic republic where everyone who advocates for living together in equality and who possesses different cultures, mother tongues, identities, and beliefs lives freely with equal citizenship rights.
'ÖCALAN'S POSITION IS FUNDAMENTAL TO THE SOLUTION'
-The fact that the situation of Mr. Öcalan, who said in the latest family meeting held in İmralı, “The isolation continues. If the conditions are met, I have the theoretical and practical power to move this process from a ground of conflict and violence to a legal and political ground,” has not yet been changed; and that the conditions for health, security, and freedom have not yet been created, continues to stand as a serious obstacle before social peace.
-The importance of Öcalan taking a role as a party to the issue is fundamental for a lasting peace and a democratic solution. Ending isolation policies and creating working conditions are essential and a historical responsibility for growing the hope for social peace and for the chance of a democratic solution to gain concreteness.
"DEM PARTY IS READY TO DO ITS PART"
-The DEM Party is ready to do everything that falls upon it regarding a democratic and peaceful solution, to take on an active and constructive role, and to strive for the socialization of peace. In this context, it considers developing inclusive policies and contributing to dialogue processes as its priority duty.
-Continuing its activities in the field of democratic politics, the DEM Party aims to pioneer the winning of the future for the whole society through democratic negotiation methods by evaluating the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) as a ground for dialogue and solution. In this context, making legal and constitutional arrangements that cover universal identity and cultural rights in the political and legal spheres is the priority of the DEM Party.
-It is extremely important to speak and express will for the solution of the Kurdish issue. In this context, we attach importance to the statements made by the ruling alliance on this issue in the recent period. On the other hand, the responsible statements and attitudes of the political and social opposition regarding the issue are also important. Because the Kurdish issue is a vital issue that concerns all segments of politics and society.
-It is clear that the solution to the Kurdish issue is too important to be made into narrow and current political material. For this reason, it is essential that the democratic aspirations of the Kurdish people are not played with, and that the society's demands for a democratic solution and peace are not sacrificed to petty calculations and interests.
-It is important that everyone who wants to take a role in a democratic solution first adopts an attitude appropriate to the seriousness of the issue and offers concrete proposals. The demands of the Kurdish people for rights and freedoms should not be seen as a desire for separation, but as a part of Turkey's democratization and a goal of a common and equal life. Historically, the goal is the formation of a Turkish-Kurdish alliance, which is at the same time an alliance of peoples.
'TRUSTEE POLICIES ARE POISONING THE SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT'
-Trustee practices undermine democratic representation and the democratic functioning of local governments. The central authority's trampling on democratic local will and the will of the people creates social distrust and governance crises, and destroys local democracy.
-It is an urgent need to make legal regulations to end the understanding of the trustee regime, which has become a form of governance that ignores the representation of the Kurdish people, violates the right to vote and be elected, places a mortgage on ballot box and election justice and the right to self-governance, and renders local democracy inoperable.
'OUR CALL IS TO EVERYONE'
-The DEM Party invites all democratic forces in Turkey to a common struggle and makes a strong call for unity to every segment with a conscience.
-First of all, we call on the government that rules this country to take concrete steps and lift the isolation. A Turkey that solves the Kurdish issue in a democratic and peaceful way will become the rising democratic value and a strong model of the region.
-A peaceful solution that will emerge in our country will also enable important steps to be taken in terms of democracy and peace in other countries of the Middle East.
-We also make an open call to all circles of political and social opposition. The Kurdish issue is not an issue to be left only to the government. In this sense, every statement made and every attitude taken by the opposition towards a solution will move society forward in a positive sense.
-The opposition should not refrain from taking a more advanced stance than the government and taking courageous steps.
-Women's movements, labor and professional organizations, youth organizations, non-governmental organizations, democratic institutions operating in every field, faith organizations, environmental and ecology movements, intellectuals who are the conscience of society, and opinion leaders must also show a determined stance to pave the way for the socialization of peace.
-To everyone whose concern is the country's future and democracy, justice, equality, freedom, law, bread and justice, work and livelihood, we say that like lands longing for water, our country is longing for social peace.
-Come, let us establish and build peace together, which is a universal value far above political interests, arrogance, party priorities, and petty squabbles. Let us all together carry out a great march for democracy and peace, which is a historical duty.
