DEM Party Co-Chair Oruç's statement: 'The PKK is its own organization, the rest is their own discretion'

DEM Party Co-Chairs Oruç and Tuncer Bakırhan met with journalists at their party's parliamentary group and answered questions.

When asked whether the call by terrorist organization PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan for the PKK to lay down arms and dissolve itself also covered the terrorist organizations PYD and SDF, Oruç replied, "The text of the call is here, and the SDF is not mentioned in the call. I expressed this on a television program yesterday as well; Öcalan made a call to the PKK. The PKK is its own organization. The rest is their own discretion. It is not our responsibility to insistently pull something out that is not in this text and carry it to the headline."

When asked whether there would be a round of meetings with political parties and whether they had a request for an appointment with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Oruç responded, "We will conduct tours of political parties. We will begin meetings next week. These tours will include the components of the People's Alliance when the time and place are appropriate, but we have not yet planned this in detail."

When asked whether the DEM Party delegation would have a new request to meet with PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, Bakırhan replied, "Of course, we think that door should now be opened. Imralı Island, where the main interlocutor of a half-century-old problem is located, needs to be opened to you first and foremost. We hope and expect that our delegation, and other dynamics of society outside the delegation, will go, ask, and talk."

Recalling that they have emphasized the Parliament from the very beginning, Oruç stressed that work could begin with a working group and commission to be established in Parliament, and that it is very important for all political parties represented in Parliament to take part in the commission.

When asked whether they, as the DEM Party, wanted a change in the Constitution, Bakırhan said, "The ongoing process has no connection to the constitutional discussions at this moment."

"CHP SHOULD NOT WASTE THIS PROCESS LIKE THIS"

Upon being reminded of the remarks by CHP Denizli Deputy Gülizar Biçer Karaca regarding the ongoing process, who said, "The main goal is a constitutional amendment. They are aiming for an amendment by securing 400 deputies in Parliament," Bakırhan stated the following:

"When have we ever negotiated with the government behind closed doors? This is the best indicator of the CHP's inability to enter this equation from the right place. The CHP should not waste this process like this. If they do not like it, they should put forward their own solution proposals. The peace process is much more valuable than political parties. This mentioned issue is not even one in a million on our agenda."
