As the National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission, established in the TBMM as part of the new reconciliation process dubbed "Terror-Free Turkey" by its architect, MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, continues its work, a notable statement and demand have come from the DEM Party regarding the process.

Meral Danış Beştaş, a DEM Party member of the reconciliation commission, expressed her reaction in a statement to the Mesopotamia Agency, asking, "What is the commission waiting for?"

Beştaş continued her statement by saying, "It is out of the question for us not to hear from Abdullah Öcalan while we are hearing from everyone else. Our view is that this commission must go to İmralı as soon as possible, that is, before October 1. We need to hear Mr. Öcalan's views and suggestions on this matter before the Parliament opens on October 1."

Demanding that terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan come to Parliament, Beştaş stated, "If the commission will not go to İmralı, then Mr. Öcalan should come. Just as everyone else has come, he too can present his statements before the commission. He can share his views. After all, this is not the first time we are hearing about conflict resolution. 'Ignoring' such a radical and determined political actor in the resolution of the issue, or dragging out these demands, certainly does not serve the resolution of these problems."

BAHÇELİ HAD ALSO CALLED FOR HIM TO COME TO PARLIAMENT

MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, the architect of the process, had also stated in his speech at his party's group meeting on October 22, 2024, "If the isolation of the terrorist leader is lifted, let him come and speak at the DEM Group Meeting in the TBMM. Let him declare that terrorism has completely ended and the organization has been disbanded. If he shows this resolve, let the path to the right to hope be opened."
