DEM Party MP Cengiz Çandar, who is in Duhok for the 6th Middle East Peace and Security Forum (MEPS 2025), made striking statements regarding the release of Selahattin Demirtaş while evaluating the current agenda.

ANSWER TO THE DEMİRTAŞ QUESTION

Answering the question, "When will Selahattin Demirtaş be released?" Çandar stated that Demirtaş should be released at any moment as a matter of law, adding, "He should have been released this week anyway."

“There is a European Court of Human Rights ruling for the release of Selahattin Demirtaş, and this decision has become final as Turkey's appeal was rejected. Therefore, as a matter of law, Selahattin Demirtaş should be released at any moment. He should have been released this week anyway. There has been no word.

It is highly likely that he will be released this weekend or next week. This is very important because if Selahattin Demirtaş does not get out of prison, then all these words we have said and speeches we have made are meaningless.

If Selahattin Demirtaş remains in prison, it means there is no peace process in Turkey. It is that important. Therefore, we strongly anticipate that he will regain his freedom in the near future and that we will be reunited with him.”
