Hürriyet columnist Abdulkadir Selvi's article titled 'They are trying to sabotage the process' has received a response from the DEM Party. In his article, Selvi mentioned DEM Party Group Deputy Chair Gülistan Kılıç Koçyistating that he is "trying to sabotage the new peace process," and adding, "It is as if hewent to Imralı to plant dynamiteat the foundation of this process. Especially regarding the YPG's refusal to lay downtheir arms,he is making extraordinary efforts."is making an extraordinary effort," hestated.
In a written statement issued by theDEMParty, the following expressions were used:
"Hürriyet newspaper columnistIn his column today titled "They are trying to sabotage theprocess," Abdulkadir Selvitargeted our Group Deputy Chair andmember of the National Solidarity, Fraternity and Democracy Commission,Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit. The statements made by Selviregarding ourcolleague are harmful.Yiğit as one of thepeople who are sabotaging the process.First and foremost, we absolutely reject this accusation by Abdulkadir Selvi.
Our party and the tradition it representsare committed to the struggle for peace and democracy, and for this cause,we have paid the price.the costs paid, starting with Selvi, are well known by all segments of society. The Peace and Democratic Societyprocess, which began on October 1, 2024, and gained a new dimension on February 27, 2025, with the callof Mr. Abdullah Öcalan,is a process thatis reaching a conclusionFor thispurpose, our party, from our Co-Chairsto the millions who have dedicated their heartsto our party, everyonehas been in aunified effortand will continue to be so.
Mr. GGülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit is also one of themost important representatives of this effort. In parliament and in every field sheis present in is putting in effort for a solution. Reminding of the requirements regarding the process, and issuing warnings on the right foundations against what is being done incorrectly is not sabotaging the process. On the contrary, the success of the process, and the arrival of peace and democracy to these landsis an expression of humanitarian and political responsibility.Mr. Koçyiğit'sstatementsareaccurate and timely warningsagainst the possibility of the process becoming infected. TFor the process to reach a successful conclusionand for 86 million people to look to the future with more hope, all our colleaguesare aware of their responsibilities and are fulfilling the requirements of this.
For this reason, our suggestion is that Selvi should look for those who "want to sabotage the process" not in the DEM Partybenches, but elsewhere. Instead of informing the public accurately, prejudicea language that produces, twists the truth, andbendshas no contribution to either peaceor democracy. We invite him to abandonaccusations that areinconsistent with the truthand to desist.
There is a serious difference between critical journalism and making baseless accusations. We hope this attitude of Selvi, who frequently targets DEM Party members, will be the last. Because this approach, instead of contributing to the progress of the process, is, on the contrary, causing it harm.”
