Describing the decision to cancel the diploma as a 'black mark,' the DEM Party issued the following statement:

A black mark has been cast upon the worlds of law and academia.

The decision by Istanbul University to cancel Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu's diploma is a clear usurpation of rights and law.

This decision, which lacks any legal basis, is a sign of a new wave of lawlessness. The action is not legal, but political. It signifies the instrumentalization of the university for political purposes.

This decision, obtained by taking control of the university administration through various means, is a black mark cast upon both the academic and legal worlds.

This mistake must be corrected as soon as possible, and no one should be allowed to cast a dark veil over politics.
