DEM Party reacts to the government regarding the new peace process: Sezai Temelli addresses Erdoğan

In the new peace process, of which MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli is the architect, PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan had called for laying down arms and dissolution on February 27.

DEM Party Group Deputy Chair Sezai Temelli criticized the government regarding the new peace process during a press conference he held in Parliament.

"The government has been in a state of paralysis since February 27," said Temelli, adding, "We keep hearing the same thing from the government: 'Let the PKK hold its congress, let them lay down their arms.' Well, how will they hold the congress? There is no step taken regarding how the congress will be held. The security, the legal framework, the discussion of the conditions for holding the congress, how Mr. Öcalan will participate in the congress, through what communication he will be there... Nothing is being discussed regarding these."

Temelli continued as follows:

"Everyone is witnessing that the issue of laying down arms is actually a motto for stalling, that it is the visible part, and that there is a major stalling tactic behind it. Stop stalling. Be serious, be genuine, and take the peace step that will meet the expectations of society. Parliament is ready for whatever is required by a democratic society. Parliament is ready to establish a commission and develop negotiations."

'IF YOU ARE SINCERE, SHARE IT'

Following the meeting, when a journalist reminded him of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's statement that "The process regarding this 'Terror-Free Turkey' is currently proceeding as planned," Temelli stated, "If they are sincere, I think they should share with the public as soon as possible what steps are being taken. The public needs information on this matter. We all need information. Because believe me, everyone has been waiting since February 27."
