DEM Party reacts to Turkey's appeal against ECHR's Selahattin Demirtaş ruling: 'A rigged case'
Turkey has requested that the ECHR Second Section's violation ruling regarding Selahattin Demirtaş be re-evaluated by the ECHR Grand Chamber. DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları reacted to the appeal.

DEM Party Co-Chairs Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan have reacted to the appeal filed against the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruling of violation regarding Selahattin Demirtaş.
Hatimoğulları stated, "Appealing the ECHR ruling is an insistence on lawlessness and harms social peace and justice! For 9 years, Selahattin Demirtaş, Figen Yüksekdağ, and dozens of our comrades have been held hostage by a rigged case." Bakırhan said, "Insisting on not recognizing international legal rulings means nothing other than admitting to lawlessness."
Hatimoğulları used the following expressions in her social media post:
"Appealing the ECHR ruling is an insistence on lawlessness and harms social peace and justice! For 9 years, Selahattin Demirtaş, Figen Yüksekdağ, and dozens of our comrades have been held hostage by a rigged case. Neither we nor the millions whose hearts beat for peace will accept this insistence on injustice by keeping those who should be contributing to peace behind bars. Our struggle for peace, law, and democracy will continue against these anti-democratic steps. The only way to increase faith in brotherhood is the freedom of our comrades!"
Bakırhan: This country needs to breathe together, and needs peace, justice, and conscience
Reacting to the appeal, DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan used the following expressions in his social media post:
"The ECHR says 'he must be released immediately'; the Ministry of Justice insists on continuing the lawlessness. The ruling is extremely clear: dear Selahattin Demirtaş must be released. Insisting on not recognizing international legal rulings means nothing other than admitting to lawlessness. As a party, our struggle for justice, which has been ongoing for years, will continue today just as it did yesterday; we will not let go of this unjust and unlawful situation. This country needs to breathe together, and needs peace, justice, and conscience. We will fight to the end for Figen Yüksekdağ, Selahattin Demirtaş, and all our friends tried in the Kobani rigged case to regain their freedom, and we will walk toward peace together."
