DEM Party statement on the 'solution process': 'The crisis in the CHP will affect the process'

DEM Party Group Deputy Chairperson Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit made critical assessments at a press conference in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) regarding the disarmament of the PKK, planned legal regulations, and the repercussions of the "absolute nullity" ruling issued against the CHP. Koçyiğit announced that they would determine a roadmap at the Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting on June 5.

A comprehensive statement has come from the DEM Party regarding the "peace process" and legal reform discussions, which remain on Turkey's agenda. Group Deputy Chairperson Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit emphasized that the delay in the "framework law" (code law) expected to be implemented within the scope of the process is a major waste of time.

"A 7-8 ARTICLE TRANSITION PROCESS LAW IS NEEDED"

Addressing the expectation for legal regulation, which Pervin Buldan pointed to and which took shape following the Imralı visit, Koçyiğit summarized the necessary reforms as follows:

Code Law (Peace Law): A general "democratic integration law" of 8-10 articles that defines the legal basis for the political and social participation of organization members who lay down their arms should be the priority starting point.

Related Legislative Amendments: Taking this code law as a reference, radical changes need to be made in many regulations, primarily the Law on the Execution of Sentences and the Anti-Terror Law (TMK).

Expectation of Negotiation: Stating that the DEM Party has prepared its own projections, Koçyiğit reminded that the Eid al-Adha has passed and expressed their expectation that the government should quickly share its own draft with the opposition and that negotiations should begin on the floor of the Parliament.

"THE INJUSTICE DONE TO THE CHP DAMAGES TRUST IN THE PROCESS"

Reacting strongly to the court's "absolute nullity" ruling regarding the CHP's 38th Ordinary Congress, Koçyiğit said that this crisis experienced by the main opposition party directly affects the peace process:

"The Republican People's Party is the main opposition party of this country and the winner of the last local elections. Attempting to design politics through the judiciary damages trust in the process. Our base rightfully asks us, 'How will there be peace under these conditions?' It is a question mark how much a CHP that is buried in its own internal problems and congress agenda can focus on the Kurdish issue. A formula in which the main opposition party is excluded or left out of the equation has very little chance of success."

RESPONSE TO BAHÇELİ'S PROPOSALS: "A MONITORING BOARD SHOULD BE ESTABLISHED IN PARLIAMENT"

Evaluating the proposals of MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli regarding the establishment of a commission in Parliament, Koçyiğit shared her party's red lines and points of agreement on this issue:

Öcalan's role is not just disarmament: "We do not find it correct to reduce Mr. Öcalan's role solely to disarmament. He is the interlocutor for the democratic solution of the Kurdish issue. Confining the matter only to the security bureaucracy creates difficulties."

Monitoring coordination should be established: She stated that they support the idea of a "Monitoring Board" or commission under the roof of the Parliament that will coordinate the process, strengthen inter-party consultation, and explain what is being done to the public.

"IF NECESSARY, PARLIAMENT SHOULD WORK ALL SUMMER FOR PEACE"

Reminding that with the approach of July 11, it will have been almost a year since the declarations of intent to lay down arms, Koçyiğit called for urgent work in Parliament before the summer recess:

"Even the 30-person Peace and Democratic Society Group has not yet been able to come to Turkey. We receive thousands of messages every day from people and relatives of prisoners in jails asking, 'When will the execution law be passed?' If necessary, Parliament should not close this summer, let us not go on vacation. Let us spend our whole summer working for peace laws. Politics must stop burying its head in the sand."

Finally, Koçyiğit added that they would clarify all these developments, the traffic of meetings, and the calendar of steps to be taken at the DEM Party Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting to be held on Friday, June 5.
