DEM Party takes action following Bahçeli's call: Appointments will be requested

The DEM Party will request appointments from all party leaders, including President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, to evaluate developments regarding the process.

According to a report by Ceren Bayar from Gazete Duvar, the DEM Party held a series of meetings to determine its new roadmap following Bahçeli's statements and the subsequent visit to İmralı.

Evaluating that there are signals indicating the start of a positive process regarding the resolution of the Kurdish issue, party officials emphasized the importance of opening channels of dialogue.

Discussions were held on what steps to take to create more ground for dialogue and consultation in the new roadmap.

APPOINTMENTS WILL BE REQUESTED FROM LEADERS

Pointing out that meetings at the leadership level could contribute to the process, DEM Party officials are discussing taking steps in this direction. On the DEM Party's agenda is requesting appointments from all party leaders, including President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, to evaluate the recent process. However, it was learned that the proposal has not yet been finalized.

'DIALOGUE CHANNELS MUST BE OPENED'

While stating that it is important to hold meetings at the leadership level to ensure the maintenance of the positive atmosphere created regarding the resolution of the Kurdish issue, officials said, “High-level dialogues are important for all statements and discussions to evolve into a positive process and to avoid approaches that would sabotage the process. Not only at the high level, but opening channels of dialogue at every level of politics will contribute to the process.”

HOW WAS BAHÇELİ'S MOVE INTERPRETED?

Evaluations regarding MHP Chairman Bahçeli's statements continue within the party. A party official, noting that Bahçeli's call for Öcalan has several important dimensions, expressed the following:

“First of all, he accepted the isolation. This is very important. He put an end to the public debate on the issue of interlocutorship in the Kurdish issue, expressing from his own position that the interlocutor is Öcalan. Given Öcalan's social influence, we also say this.

Öcalan has proposals for the resolution of the Kurdish issue in Turkey and the problems in the Middle East; he has a peace logic, a formula.

In fact, the truth we have been stating for years has been revealed through Bahçeli's expressions. Furthermore, Bahçeli's mention of the right to hope is also very important. Even if he said this after the condition of laying down arms, we find it important. The right to hope is a humanitarian right, a legal right.”

Drawing attention to the importance of creating conditions for Öcalan to negotiate, party sources assessed, “It will be an important threshold for these discussions to continue through dialogue. We believe that if it is steered in the right direction, filled with substance, and steps are taken with sincerity, it can progress.”
