Deniz Göktaş ends the debate with a statement: He recounts his meeting with Kılıçdaroğlu

Imprisoned comedian Deniz Göktaş has clarified the claims that have been on the public agenda regarding his meeting with Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu at the courthouse. Göktaş personally confirmed the previously debated remark, "Let go of the CHP," stating that the meeting did not take place at his request and that it was a brief encounter before he was brought before the Criminal Judgeship of Peace.

Journalist Fatih Altaylı shared the details of his conversation with Metin Aslan, the lawyer for Deniz Göktaş, who was arrested on charges of "inciting the public to hatred and hostility and insulting them" and "insulting the President."

HIS LAWYER EXPLAINS THE MEETING PROCESS

Metin Aslan stated that during the detention process, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's advisor, Atakan Sönmez, reached out to him.

According to Aslan, he was called eight times from an unknown number the previous evening following the detention. After he did not answer the phone, a message from the same number indicated that the caller was Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's advisor, Atakan Sönmez.

Aslan explained that he returned the call and was told that Kılıçdaroğlu wanted to meet with him, but he replied that there was no subject to discuss.

ATTEMPT TO MEET WITH THE FAMILY AS WELL

Metin Aslan stated that Kılıçdaroğlu also wanted to meet with Deniz Göktaş's family.

Aslan noted that he told them it would be more appropriate for this request to be handled through Göktaş's team rather than through him, and that the family was subsequently contacted, but they were informed that the family had withdrawn due to the process and did not want to meet with anyone.

BRIEF MEETING AT ÇAĞLAYAN COURTHOUSE

According to lawyer Aslan's statement, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and his entourage arrived at the Çağlayan Courthouse around 08:30 in the morning.

Stating that Deniz Göktaş was brought to the courthouse later, Aslan said that a meeting was not possible at first and that Kılıçdaroğlu and his team waited for a long time.

Aslan also stated that the people who came with Kılıçdaroğlu were protested outside the courthouse, and that they were not in the area at that time.

Aslan reported that a brief meeting took place with Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu while Göktaş was being taken to the Criminal Judgeship of Peace, and that he asked his client what was discussed after this meeting.

HE REPORTED THAT HE SAID "JUST LET GO OF THE CHP"

Metin Aslan stated that Deniz Göktaş told him he had said to Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, "Just let go of the CHP."

Stating that he shared this information with journalists, Aslan recalled that subsequent statements made on behalf of the CHP claimed that no such expression was used, and he expressed that he was sure he understood what Göktaş told him correctly, but that he would ask his client about the matter once more.

DENIZ GÖKTAŞ: I SAID I DID NOT WANT TO MEET

According to Fatih Altaylı, Metin Aslan also conveyed Deniz Göktaş's written statement on the matter during the night.

In his statement, Göktaş mentioned that he was informed that Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu was at the courthouse and wanted to meet with him, and that he said he did not want to meet.

However, explaining that a brief meeting took place before he was brought before the Criminal Judgeship of Peace, Göktaş used the following expressions:

"He said 'get well soon,' and I thanked him. He asked if I needed anything, and I said 'no.' Actually, I told him I did not want to meet. I said, 'Since you are here, millions of young people have a request; please let go of the CHP.' After I said this, he nodded and then left."

In the continuation of his statement, Deniz Göktaş said, "The person I voted for for the Presidency in 2023 became the first person I had to be impolite to face-to-face in 2026. What my lawyer said is true."
