New details continue to emerge in the high-interest foreign currency fund fraud case in which former Denizbank branch manager Seçil Erzan is being tried while in custody.
The allegation that 400,000 dollars of the money Emre Belözoğlu gave to Erzan was obtained from Ankara-based businessman Cevdet Ağaçlı was included in the bank's inspection board report.
According to the report by Masum Gök from 10Haber, this finding was stated in the report as follows:
"A total of 400,000 USD was transferred to the claimant's account by Cevdet Ağaçlı, consisting of 100,000 USD on 17.03.2023 and 300,000 USD on 21.03.2023. The amount in question was transferred on 22.03.2023 to Nur Erkasap, whose name appears in the chain of events and whose findings are detailed in the later sections of the report. Therefore, it is concluded that this transaction is the subject of the statement verbally conveyed to us by Volkan Bahçekapılı, claiming that 'he gave the 400,000 USD amount to Nur Erkasap on 22.03.2023 to be delivered to Seçil Erzan'."
CARRIED IN A SUITCASE
The bank's report stated that before Emre Belözoğlu invested the money into this fictitious fund, 17 million liras were withdrawn from Volkan Bahçekapılı's account via written instruction by Emrah Türkekul and carried away in a suitcase. That section was described in the report as follows:
"Examinations revealed that a transfer of 17,000,000 TL was made to Volkan Bahçekapılı's account from Fatih Terim's account on 24.02.2023. The amount in question was paid in cash as 17,000,000 TL to Emrah Türkekul from the Levent Büyükdere Street Branch upon the claimant's written instruction. It is understood from the camera footage regarding the transaction that the money was packed into a suitcase, taken out of the branch, and placed into a car to be driven away."
