Departure tax stamp becomes a thing of the past: Digital payment era begins

With a communiqué published by the Revenue Administration (GİB), the departure tax for international travel began to be paid digitally as of January 1. The printed tax stamp practice has also ended at the Kapıkule Border Gate in Edirne. With the start of the implementation, warning signs indicating that payments are now made digitally were posted on the vending machines where printed tax stamps were previously purchased.

Citizens who could not purchase stamps from the machines made their payments digitally before traveling abroad. Taner Yörük, a citizen departing for Bulgaria, told an AA reporter that paying digitally is much easier.

Explaining that they made the payment without getting out of their vehicles, Yörük said, "We can quickly purchase the tax stamp digitally while in the vehicle. The implementation will speed up the processes a bit more. But what is important is for the Bulgarian toll booths to work faster. There is no problem on our side."

Cemalettin Demir also stated that he paid his departure tax digitally. Expressing that the procedures will speed up, Demir noted that he believes the implementation will shorten processing times at the gates.
