Dervişoğlu's remarks stir political circles: 'An environment Erdoğan couldn't have hoped for'

As debates continue regarding the Republican People's Party's (CHP) decision to determine its presidential candidate through a primary election, İYİ Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu has made striking remarks.

In a statement to journalists following his party's group meeting, Dervişoğlu said, "The presidency is a fundamental issue for our nation. I do not find it appropriate or meaningful for it to be evaluated as if it were an internal party matter. I also do not understand why these discussions are being defined as the touchstone that will overshadow all the negativity we are experiencing."

These words from Dervişoğlu led to interpretations that he "gave the green light to an alliance with the CHP."

According to a report by Cumhuriyet, İYİ Party sources noted that the aforementioned assessments made based on Dervişoğlu's words were inaccurate.

The officials assessed the situation, stating, "The presidential issue concerns 85 million people. It is not a ping-pong match between the AKP and the CHP. It concerns all parties, whether they have a group in Parliament or not. It is not a subject to be discussed and debated solely through the AKP and the CHP."

'ERDOĞAN WILL FUEL IT'

Emphasizing that it is "too early to talk about an alliance," party members find the candidate selection efforts being carried out by the CHP to be problematic. A high-level official from the party also assessed, "The mayors are being worn down. It is an environment the AKP couldn't have hoped for. Erdoğan will increasingly fuel this candidacy debate. Tension will be created." The officials also noted that the party has made a decision "not to undermine the opposition." Party members state that they have a similar expectation from the CHP.
