According to the calendar included in the "Primary Election Under Organization Supervision for Presidential Candidate Directive" prepared by the CHP's authorized bodies, membership applications for the right to vote ended as of 17.00 on February 28.
According to information obtained from party sources, 150 thousand new members joined the CHP and gained the right to vote following the decision to hold a primary election on March 23. Thus, 1 million 650 thousand CHP members will go to the polls in the primary election to determine their party's presidential candidate for the next general elections.
BALLOTS ARE ON THE WAY
According to the primary election calendar, the printing of voter lists for members eligible to vote as of today has begun by the CHP General Secretariat.
The process will continue on Thursday, March 13, with the sending of the voter lists, the printing of which has been completed by the General Secretariat, to the district presidencies, the notification of changes in the number of ballot boxes to be established to the central board, and the identification of chairpersons and members to be assigned to the ballot box committees by the district presidencies.
According to the primary election calendar, the sending of the printed ballots to the district presidencies, along with other voting materials, will begin on Friday, March 14.
The suspension of voter lists, the start of objections to the lists, and the announcement of the number of ballot boxes and voting locations by the central board will take place on Sunday, March 16.
OBJECTIONS WILL BE DECIDED ON MARCH 21
On Tuesday, March 18, the voter lists will be taken down from suspension. On Thursday, March 20, a drawing of lots will be held among the names submitted by candidates or their representatives for ballot box committee membership. On the same day, the formation of the ballot box committees will be completed.
According to the calendar, on Friday, March 21, objections made to the voter lists will be decided by the central board. On Sunday, March 23, CHP members who have earned the right to vote in the primary election will go to the polls to determine their party's presidential candidate for the next general elections.
In the primary election under organization supervision, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who has secured the signatures of 116 members of parliament, will be the sole candidate.
