Details of the hitchhiking incident in Avcılar have emerged
In Istanbul's Avcılar district, 23-year-old Mehmet Koç lost his life after being shot by individuals he and his friend had picked up in their car in the early hours of the morning. His friend, Ahmet H. (21), was injured. The details of the incident have emerged. In his statement to the police, the injured Ahmet H. said, “We were on our way home when two people signaled us on the road, so we stopped. An argument broke out inside the car over a request for a cigarette. One of them pulled out a gun and fired. Then they got out of the car and left.” The police have launched a large-scale operation to apprehend the suspects.

The incident occurred today around 03:30 in the Tahtakale neighborhood of Avcılar. According to allegations, friends Mehmet Koç (21) and Ahmet H. (20) saw two people hitchhiking on Ayçiçeği Street while they were driving home in their car.
THEY KILLED ONE AND INJURED THE OTHER
According to the allegations, Koç and his friend picked up the two hitchhikers. A short while later, an argument broke out between Mehmet Koç and Ahmet H. and the two people they had picked up. As the argument escalated, the suspects who had entered the car shot and wounded Ahmet H. and Mehmet Koç. The suspects got out of the car and fled the scene rapidly. Upon notification, police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. Ahmet H. and Mehmet Koç were taken to the hospital by ambulance.
21-year-old Mehmet Koç, who was reportedly shot 5 times in the attack, lost his life at the hospital where he had been taken in critical condition. While the treatment of Ahmet H., who was shot 4 times, continues at the hospital, an investigation has been launched.
THEY ARGUED OVER A REQUEST FOR A CIGARETTE
The injured Ahmet H. recounted what happened at the hospital. In his statement taken while he was injured, Ahmet H. said: “While Mehmet and I were driving, two people signaled us. We stopped and picked them up. A short while later, an argument broke out between us in the car over a request for a cigarette. One of the individuals pulled out a gun and fired. Mehmet lost his life, and the two of them got out and fled.”
Following the incident, the Murder Bureau and the Avcılar District Police Department teams launched an investigation. As a result of the work carried out, the identities of the suspects have been determined. It was stated that the apprehension of the suspects is imminent.
