Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu visited former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu last Tuesday.
The two figures met for the first time since the 38th Ordinary CHP Congress held on November 5, 2023. New details have emerged regarding the meeting, which took place at Kılıçdaroğlu's home and lasted approximately one and a half hours.
Hürriyet columnist Abdulkadir Selvi, known for his proximity to the government, commented on the surprise visit, saying, "There is one undisputed winner of this meeting. That is Ekrem İmamoğlu."
Selvi, who covered the meeting in his column, shared the following details:
“Kılıçdaroğlu said, ‘It is not pleasant for the party to be in this state.’ İmamoğlu did not object to this. He stated that the party had fallen into this situation because of Özgür Özel. In a sense, İmamoğlu also stoked the fire under the boiler. Kılıçdaroğlu explained his suggestions regarding the congress. He said that the changes planned to be made to the party statute would greatly empower the chairman, and that this would lead to one-man rule.”
