The National Intelligence Academy (MİA) has published a comprehensive report examining the 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran that has shaken regional balances. One of the most striking points in the academy's report was the need for "mass shelters."
The report stated, "Shelters with the necessary technical requirements should be established in strategic facilities, and mass shelters that are easily accessible should be built, especially in large cities."
TOKİ HAS BEGUN WORK
In line with these reports prepared in light of the recent war and tensions in the Middle East, TOKİ has taken action. Turkey's shelter infrastructure will be strengthened in accordance with potential threats, and modern shelters will be built in 81 provinces. Various areas, primarily the underground spaces of public gardens (millet bahçeleri), will be evaluated for shelter construction.
"THEY WILL ALL BE FINISHED WITHIN 120 DAYS"
Mustafa Karslıoğlu, President of the Eastern Mediterranean Construction Contractors Federations (DAİMFED), made statements regarding the matter.
Stating that the construction process will begin rapidly following the government's instructions, Karslıoğlu said, "After the insulation of the shelters is designed at various universities, construction will begin in existing public gardens and designated areas in a way that they can all be finished within 120 days. We should not perceive shelters only in terms of war; there are also pandemics, earthquakes, disasters, and floods."
ONE SQUARE METER OF SPACE PER PERSON
Karslıoğlu continued his remarks with the following words:
"With TOKİ's experience and the reliability of our contractor firms, these projects will be completed in a short time. An area will be built that provides one square meter per person, and it will be planned so that they can live there for at least 21 days. In the coming period, these projects will be carried out in locations to be determined by the governorships of each province. Today, the number of shelters in a province with a population of 100,000 will not be the same as the number of shelters in metropolitan cities."
