Details of the spaceport Turkey will build in Somalia have been revealed
Providing information about the Spaceport to be established in Somalia by the TUA, Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır said, "The feasibility and project design studies required for the spaceport to be established in Somalia have been completed, and the initial construction activities have begun. The spaceport serves as a strategic lever that will ensure Turkey's independent access to space, strengthen its national security, deepen its industrial and technological capacity, and elevate the country to the top tier of the global space economy."

AKP ChairmanandPresidentRecep Tayyip Erdoğan announced the Spaceport to be established in Somalia by the TUA during a press conference held as part of Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud's visit to Turkey.Sharing the details of the strategic project,Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır stated that the TWithin the scope of the cooperation agreement signed betweenTurkey and Somalia, he stated that a Spaceport is being built on the land allocated to our country,and noted that the necessary feasibility and project design studieshave been completed and the first phase of construction activities has begun.
Regarding access to space, countries located in the equatorialregion have a technical advantageExplaining that there are advantages from that location, Minister Kacır stated that as a result of the feasibility studies, Somalia emerged as the most advantageousregion for theSpaceportinvestment.He stated that it stood out as the most advantageous region. Within the scope of the 'Access to Space and Spaceport' target included in the National Space Program (MUP), stuthe work was carried out under the coordination of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, with the contributions of relevant institutions and organizations, primarily the Turkish Space Agency (TUA), and stated thatthese efforts weresustainedthrough this process, Kacır added.He stated that Turkey having a spaceport is a strategic step that will position Turkey as an independent, competitive, and globally influential actor in space activities. He added that this investment is a significant move for the space economy.
Kacır stated, "This investment, in terms of the space economy,in terms of long-term andhigh-multiplier effect gains it offers. With this investment,primarily, the satellite launch vehicles developed in our countrywill be able to be sentinto spacein a completely independent manner.it will become possible to send; fin the field of launch technologies, asustainable and competitive domestic industrial ecosystem will be formedThis ecosystem, which will deepen in critical areas such as rocket engines, fuel technologies, propulsion systems, advanced technology materials, avionics, and ground support infrastructure, will ensure that technology acquisition becomes permanent andwill ensure thatforeign dependency is eliminated.
