Detention order for Tamar Tanrıyar for 'insulting the President'

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an ex officio investigation into Tamar Tanrıyar due to her social media posts. A detention order has been issued for Tanrıyar, who faces charges of "insulting the President" and "publicly disseminating misleading information."

In an official statement released by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was reported that legal proceedings were initiated against the suspect Tanrıyar on the grounds that she committed the crimes of "Insulting the President" under Article 299 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK) and "Publicly Disseminating Misleading Information" under Article 217/A.

The statement from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is as follows:

"An ex officio investigation has been launched by our Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into the suspect Tamar Tanrıyar, who was determined to have made posts on certain social media platforms that are publicly accessible and constitute criminal content, for the crimes of 'Insulting the President' regulated under Article 299 of the Turkish Penal Code and 'Publicly Disseminating Misleading Information' regulated under Article 217/A, and a detention order has been issued for the suspect."
