Detention period for Şişli Mayor Şahan extended

Lawyer Hüseyin Ersöz announced that the detention period for Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan has been extended. It has been learned that Şahan's lawyers have appealed the decision.

It was stated that the detention period for Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan, who was among those taken into custody yesterday along with Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, has been extended by one day.

Şahan's lawyer, Hüseyin Ersöz, shared information regarding the detention process on his social media account. Ersöz stated that they also objected to the search conducted at Şahan's home yesterday and requested the return of the confiscated items.

Ersöz's statement is as follows:

“Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan had been taken into custody. His detention period was extended by 1 day yesterday evening.

Furthermore, his lawyers were not allowed to participate in the search and seizure operations that took place at his home yesterday. We have shared our objections regarding this matter with the Prosecutor's Office.

We appealed today against the decision of the Istanbul 7th Criminal Judgeship of Peace, which served as the basis for the search and seizure operations that were carried out unlawfully.

We have requested the annulment of the decision, which was issued without justification and violates Article 134 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CMK), and the return of all confiscated items.

We will continue to make all necessary legal applications in the coming process, and while respecting the confidentiality of the investigation, we will share information to ensure the public is correctly informed.”
