By decision of the Istanbul Governor's Office, Taksim Square was closed to the May 1st Labor Day celebrations starting at 04:30 in the morning. Those who tried different routes to reach the area were met with police obstruction.
DETENTIONS IN TAKSIM
Young people marching in the side streets leading to Istiklal Avenue with slogans of "Long live May 1st" were stopped by police after marching for a while, and a group of 15 people was detained.
30 PEOPLE DETAINED IN BESIKTAS
Despite the Constitutional Court's ruling, police intervened against a group that wanted to march to Taksim Square, which was banned for May 1st celebrations, on Barbaros Boulevard in Besiktas; 30 people were detained.
It was reported that 30 people from the group consisting of members of the People's Liberation Party (HKP) were detained.
