Diplomatic appointment to Damascus

Turkey's Ambassador to Nouakchott, Burhan Köroğlu, has been appointed as the Temporary Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy in Damascus.

By appointing a Temporary Chargé d'Affaires, Turkey has reactivated its Embassy in Damascus.

Syria's Consulate General in Istanbul had already been continuing its operations.

WHO IS BURHAN KÖROĞLU?

Burhan Köroğlu was born in Istanbul in 1962. After graduating from the Department of Philosophy at Istanbul University, he completed his Master's degree at the University of Jordan and his Doctorate in Islamic Philosophy at Marmara University.

After working as a faculty member at Marmara University, Middlebury College (USA), the University of Jordan, Bahçeşehir University, and İbn Haldun University respectively, he most recently served as a professor at the Institute of Middle Eastern and Islamic Countries Studies at Marmara University.

At various times, he served as the director of the Bahçeşehir University Civilization Studies Center (MEDAM), director of the İbn Haldun University Institute of Social Sciences, head of the Department of Philosophy at İbn Haldun University, and as an expert researcher at the Al Jazeera Centre for Studies in Qatar.

Burhan Köroğlu, who once served as the chairman of the board of Al Jazeera Turk, has authored and translated works in Turkish, Arabic, and English in the fields of Islamic Philosophy, Political Thought, and Turkish-Arab Relations.

Appointed as the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Nouakchott by the Presidential Decree dated 14.11.2023 and numbered 2023/497, Ambassador Köroğlu began his duties on December 15, 2023.

Burhan Köroğlu is married, a father of three, and speaks English and Arabic.
