Disaster averted at Royal Atlantis Icon Hotel: Hotel that ignored construction ban partially demolished

The 5-star Royal Atlantis Icon Hotel, under construction on the Gündoğdu coast of Antalya's Manavgat district, continued its operations despite a construction ban. However, following the collapse of the building's kitchen terrace, a decision was made to partially demolish the hotel. This incident at the hotel, which had already sold rooms for the upcoming season and was preparing for its opening, prevented a major disaster.

Acting on the instructions of CHP Manavgat Mayor and former MP Dr. Niyazi Nefi Kara, municipal teams carried out the partial demolition at the hotel, which was scheduled to open on June 1.

During the incident, the kitchen terrace of the building, which was empty at the time, collapsed; two workers were trapped but were rescued by teams.

It was learned that some sections of the hotel were being completed despite the construction ban, and that the necessary engineering and safety inspections had not been conducted.

Officials emphasized that a potential collapse, had it occurred during the season when the hotel was full, could have had much more severe consequences.

The owner of the Royal Atlantis Icon Hotel is a U.S. citizen and businessman named Ş.I., who operates in the oil sector. It is stated that the Ilgınlar Turizm company, to which the hotel belongs, has also been mentioned in connection with several other projects in the region.
