DİSK President Arzu Çerkezoğlu: 'TÜİK is obscuring the data'

DİSK President Arzu Çerkezoğlu spoke out in front of the TÜİK building following the announcement of the inflation figures. Stating that "TÜİK is obscuring the data," Çerkezoğlu held a press conference with the delegation accompanying her. 

According to the report by ANKA, Çerkezoğlu said the following: 

“Today is the day the first inflation figures of 2025 are announced. We once again invite TÜİK, which causes the bread of millions to shrink by announcing inflation much lower than the real inflation figures we experience every day, to comply with court rulings. TÜİK announced January inflation at 5.03 percent and annual inflation at 42.12 percent. The December inflation announced on January 3 was 1.04 percent. The inflation data announced on that date, which would be used to calculate the 6-month inflation, was to determine the wages of millions of workers, laborers, public employees, and retirees. We see that the inflation, which was announced as 1.04 percent a month ago, is now announced by TÜİK as 5.03 percent, a fivefold increase one month later. This means that by postponing all price increases and suppressing the inflation figure even further, TÜİK, which announced December inflation as 1.04 percent so that the raise rate for millions of workers, laborers, and retirees would be kept low, has announced five times that inflation today.

WE CALL ON TÜİK TO ANNOUNCE INFLATION FIGURES ACCURATELY

Everyone in this country has duties and responsibilities toward this country. Everyone must fulfill these duties and responsibilities. The duty and responsibility of the government managing the country, with the authority they received from the ballot box, is to ensure that the value we produce is shared equally in a way that allows 85 million people to live humanely, and to implement policies for this purpose. The duty of TÜİK, a public institution, is to measure the inflation figure that determines the wages, social rights, living conditions, and the bread on the table of millions of workers, laborers, and retirees in a ‘real’ way. Today, we are here to call on TÜİK to remain loyal to this duty and to announce inflation figures accurately.

As long as TÜİK does not do its job properly and measures inflation incompletely, the bread of millions shrinks more every day. We, the millions living in this country, see what real inflation is by experiencing it every day. TÜİK is obscuring the data, causing our bread to shrink even more every day.

THE CRIME COMMITTED BY TÜİK MANAGEMENT IS STEALING THE PEOPLE'S BREAD

Our country has reached such a state that while those who criticize the current government, those who are in opposition, politicians, and journalists are immediately tried to be suppressed with a politicized judicial stick, the TÜİK management is allowed to commit a crime openly by not complying with court rulings. Because the crime committed by the TÜİK management does not target the government, but the bread of workers and laborers; it is stealing the people's bread.”
