Statement from Diyarbakır Bar Association President Eren regarding the Narin investigation

The investigation conducted by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into the murder of Narin Güran, who went missing on August 21 in the Tavşantepe neighborhood of the central Bağlar district and whose lifeless body was found in the Eğertutmaz Stream on September 8, is ongoing.

Diyarbakır Bar Association President Nahit Eren, in a statement to journalists in front of the Diyarbakır Courthouse, recalled that mother Yüksel Güran and brother Enes Güran were referred to the court with a request for their arrest for complicity in murder, and stated that the others are also being investigated for the crime of "concealing evidence of a crime" related to this act of killing.

Responding to a journalist's question, Eren stated that the uncle, Salim Güran, who was previously arrested, was not brought to the courthouse with the 22 suspects.

Regarding the question, "Is there any new development concerning Salim Güran's deleted messages?" Eren replied, "The examination processes for the phones of all those currently in custody and those previously arrested are continuing. Efforts are being made to access deleted information from some of these phones."

Eren spoke as follows:

"There is some data that has been obtained. There is some data that has not been obtained. Because some of it, as has been reflected in the public domain before, comes from the centers of the programs in question. The information that previous correspondence, specifically WhatsApp correspondence, would not be provided has already been shared with the public."

Responding to the question, "Were the mother and brother Enes referred to the court for the crime of intentional homicide in complicity, or are they being charged with the same crime as Nevzat Bahtiyar?" Eren replied, "The reasons for the arrests of both Nevzat and those arrested regarding Salim are the same. Or rather, they have not been arrested yet. They were referred for arrest with this allegation."

Upon being asked, "Are complicity and aiding and abetting the same thing legally?" Eren stated, "Anyone who decides to commit a crime, carries it out together, or assists in the commission of that crime is complicit in that crime."

Responding to the question, "Is there an organized massacre here, or did they kill Narin together?" Eren noted the following:

"I mean, currently, if a single person were killed, this accusation would only apply to one person. But here, what we call complicity by more than one person falls under joint murder. That is, the instigator also falls under complicity. So, what we call complicity is not limited to just performing the act. It includes those who make the decision and those who implement it. I am making this assessment in a general sense. But here, there are 4 suspects; 2 have been arrested, and 2 are currently referred for arrest for the same type of crime."

Responding to the question, "In his statement, Nevzat Bahtiyar says, 'I left one stone.' Then the judge says, 'It wasn't one, 3-4 stones were found on the body.' In this case, did the mother and Enes also provide support in hiding the body?" Eren noted that the number of stones was 3.

Stating that some information has been reflected in the public domain in a way that violates the confidentiality of the investigation, Eren explained that there is a false perception regarding that matter as well.

Eren concluded his speech as follows:

"It was even said that there was a secret witness. There is no secret witness in this file. That is, on the day Narin's body was found, it was re-determined based on the location. Regarding the time of death, I am now saying this because the information that the time was given incorrectly—which was reflected in many statements and today's testimonies—was actually conscious and intentional, and it has been reflected in the public domain.

They said that Salim had suggested that the time be given to them in this way. What did this show? Camera recordings were re-examined retrospectively in some way.

And in those camera recordings, the vehicle and the person related to Narin's burial there were found in that way. A detention warrant was issued for that night, and he was taken from his home. In this sense, there is no secret witness or confessor in this file, but someone who was taken on suspicion of a crime and confessed to their crime."
