The Diyarbakır Police Department has issued a statement regarding allegations that the sign bearing the letters DEM, which it had used for a long time, was removed due to its similarity to the name DEM Party.
"WE DO NOT WISH TO BE INVOLVED IN SUCH DISCUSSIONS"
Speaking to Amida Haber, officials from the Diyarbakır Police Department provided the following information: "If we had not removed it, it could have been misunderstood. We did not have a registration for it. If it had been a corporate and registered name, we would have tried a different path. It has no official infrastructure. We took a well-intentioned step to avoid giving rise to a different debate. This step was taken to prevent confusion. If it had been another party, we would have acted in a similar way. We are an official organ of the state. We do not wish to be involved in such discussions. To avoid confusion, we used the long and full name of the Diyarbakır Police Department."
