DMM responds to Treaty of Sèvres claims! 'Public opinion is being manipulated'

The DMM has dismissed as baseless the allegations that a legislative proposal was intentionally scheduled to coincide with the anniversary of the Treaty of Sèvres.

The proposal, expected to be one of the final agenda items of the legislative year in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), has sparked controversy due to its discussion date and content.

The Presidential Communications Directorate's Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) has responded to comments and news reports regarding the date on which the "Legislative Proposal on Strengthening National Solidarity and Social Integration" was brought before the TBMM General Assembly.

In its statement, the DMM noted that posts claiming the proposal was intentionally placed on the parliamentary agenda to coincide with the anniversary of the Treaty of Sèvres do not reflect the truth. It was stated that these allegations aim to "manipulate public opinion."


The statement emphasized that the TBMM's work calendar is conducted within the framework of constitutional procedures and legislative processes. It was noted that associating legislative activities with "malicious symbolic pairings" constitutes a provocation.

The full text of the DMM's statement is as follows:

"The allegations appearing in some social media channels and press outlets that the “Legislative Proposal on Strengthening National Solidarity and Social Integration was brought to the TBMM General Assembly on the anniversary of the Treaty of Sèvres with intentional timing” are baseless and aim to manipulate public opinion.

Our Veteran Assembly is the symbol of our unity and solidarity that tore up the Sèvres imposition and led the National Struggle to victory; it is the place where the will of the nation is manifested. The work calendar of the TBMM is also conducted within the framework of constitutional procedures and legislative processes. Attempting to associate these processes with malicious symbolic pairings is a clear provocation aimed at misleading the public and targeting the unwavering integration of society.

Our noble nation, which stood as one heart against imperialist impositions a hundred years ago, has united today around the goal of a Terror-Free Turkey; it continues to resolutely strengthen its solidarity in every field. The legislative proposal in question is a historic step aimed at fortifying our internal front and further cementing our national solidarity.

It is of great importance that our citizens remain sensitive against such sources of discord that target our thousand-year brotherhood, our common future, and our national unity; and that they do not give credence to baseless allegations, taking only official statements into account."
