DNA samples collected from 415 people in Rojin Kabaiş investigation

A significant stage has been reached in the investigation into the death of university student Rojin Kabaiş, who was found dead on the shore of Lake Van on October 15 after going missing in 2024 in Van. In line with the requests conveyed by the Kabaiş family during their meeting with Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek, DNA samples were collected from a total of 415 people, including the university rector and some relatives.

It was reported that the DNA samples were focused particularly on men living in the villages of Mollakasım and Bardakçı. These villages stand out as residential areas known for their proximity to the university and the location where Rojin's body was found.

Father Nizamettin Kabaiş expressed hope regarding the ongoing investigation in a statement:

“We were very pleased with the Minister's statements. After the statement, I learned that new teams have been established for both the Van and Diyarbakır legs of the investigation. They said everything would be investigated. This pleased us greatly. We are very hopeful. Hopefully, with God's permission, everything will be brought to light. My only wish is for whatever happened to my daughter to be revealed. It is clear that this incident is a murder. Rojin is not just my daughter, she is the daughter of all of Turkey. My daughter's only wish was to study. The darkness will be brought to light.”

The family stated that they are concerned because the case has not yet been clarified despite the long time that has passed since the incident. The Kabaiş family is demanding that the steps taken to clarify the incident be accelerated and that the perpetrators be brought to justice.

It was reported that the investigation into the matter is continuing meticulously and that judicial authorities have begun working with additional teams in both Van and Diyarbakır. The examination of the collected DNA samples is ongoing.
