Doctor attacked by patients' relatives quits profession: Ministry remained a spectator, no one called
Dr. Mustafa Hürkal Tezvar, who suffered a cardiac arrest twice after being attacked by a patient and their relatives while working in the Bodrum district of Muğla, has been discharged from the hospital where he was receiving treatment. Announcing that he will retire, Tezvar said, "I have been a physician for 40 years and this is the first time I have encountered such a thing. I returned from the brink of death, the Ministry of Health remained a spectator, and no one called or checked on me."

63-year-old family physician Mustafa Hürkal Tezvar, who was attacked by a patient and their relatives on July 29 at the Ortakent No. 12 Family Health Center in the Bodrum district of Muğla and suffered two cardiac arrests, was discharged today.
Before leaving the hospital, Tezvar held a press conference with his lawyer, Onursal Özbek, the Bodrum representative of the Muğla Bar Association, and recounted what he had experienced.
According to the report by Yaşar Anter from Sözcü newspaper, Tezvar stated that on the day of the incident, while he was examining a patient, a patient and their relative tried to enter his room and he had their temperature taken. "I had a patient, but despite that, I had the patient's temperature taken to be helpful; it was 37 degrees. I told them to go to the hospital. One of them entered the room, dragged me by the arm, and shouted, 'You will look at them, you jerk! Should I call Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca or will you?' while another squeezed my throat; at that moment, I lost consciousness," he said.
'I AM STILL SHOCKED AND SAD'
Tezvar, whose bruises on his arm were still visible, said, "I have been a physician for 40 years, 9 of which were spent in the 112 emergency service. I have never even argued with anyone, let alone fought. Because I am not that kind of person, this is the first time I have encountered such an incident; I am still shocked and sad," he said.
'THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH REMAINED A SPECTATOR'
Stating that no one from the Ministry of Health had called him, Tezvar said: "The Ministry of Health remained a spectator, no one called. It is not possible for me to continue practicing medicine under these conditions; I will retire and leave my profession."
Tezvar's lawyer, Onursal Özbek, said, "I warned about the increase in violence in Bodrum 4-5 months ago. Violence against doctors today poses a risk for every public employee tomorrow. The violence against Tezvar falls under catalog crimes. As long as there is no deterrent response to such crimes in the judiciary, unfortunately, we will continue to face these situations," he said.
