Journalist and author Doğan Satmış has been appointed as the Editor-in-Chief of Sözcü Newspaper. Known for his research and work in the direction of ethical and independent journalism, Satmış is a member of the High Advisory Board at the Press Council.
WHO IS DOĞAN SATMIŞ?
Doğan Satmış began his journalism career as a reporter at Anadolu Agency. He worked as a night editor at Günaydın and Bugün newspapers. He served as the News Editor at Hürriyet for 17 years.
He became Hürriyet's first Reader Representative (Ombudsman) and held the position for 5 years. He was a member of the Organization of News Ombudsmen.
He served as Deputy Editor-in-Chief at Sabah Newspaper. In 2009, he was among the founders of Habertürk Newspaper.
In 2002, he was named "Journalist of the Year" in the research category by the Turkish Journalists Association. He served two terms on the Board of Directors of the Turkish Journalists Association. He served on the Turkey Committee of the International Press Institute (IPI).
He is currently a member of the High Advisory Board of the Press Council. He worked as a columnist at Referans Newspaper. He served as a guest editor at The Plain Dealer newspaper in the USA. Satmış, who has numerous books, also continued his duties as a columnist and General Editorial Consultant at Cumhuriyet Newspaper.
