Doğu Perinçek shares the letter he sent to terrorist leader Öcalan

Vatan Party leader Doğu Perinçek has shared the letter he wrote in 2000 to Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the terrorist organization PKK.

Highlights from the letter published in Aydınlık Newspaper are as follows:

“Mr. Abdullah Öcalan,

Your lawyers conveyed your greetings and asked for my views on the upcoming process. I found it useful to write to you as well, out of the responsibility I feel for the independence and unity of Turkey, regarding what I told them.”

"The program they call 'democracy and human rights' or 'Copenhagen criteria' is not a democracy program, but rather tools of a policy of fragmentation and control, just as they did against Iraq and Yugoslavia. If we look at the process from the perspective of our country, the US and Europe want only one thing from Turkey: to assume the role of a 'crisis intervention force.' There are also those who summarize this mission with the polite phrase 'producing security for the West.'

The Copenhagen criteria and such are all in the service of this imposition. Indeed, when Turkey was accepted as an EU candidate member, the German ruling power's newspaper Die Welt determined the true meaning of the event as follows: 'By accepting EU candidate membership, Turkey has shown that it is ready to sacrifice the lives of its children for the sake of a great adventurous ally.' (Die Welt, December 18, 1999) As can be understood from this, keeping Turkey under control at the gates of Europe is the policy of the US.

The Economist magazine, on the other hand, clearly stated what Turkey's candidate membership means in terms of the historical process, announcing the event with the headline 'The end of Kemalism.' EU candidate membership and completing the Kemalist Revolution are two opposing processes. Everyone needs to ask themselves this question: Can a regime that sends the Turkish soldier to crisis regions for the security of the West be democratic?

A second question: Can a regime that collapses Turkish agriculture by removing support payments to farmers as required by the IMF prescription, and that will throw more than a million workers onto the streets through privatization and liquidate social security institutions, have any choice other than applying violence to the vast majority?

Can a regime that hands over even the domestic market to foreign hypermarkets give freedom to tradesmen and merchants while liquidating them at the same time?

Within the 'Copenhagen criteria,' there is no mercy for the worker, the farmer, the tradesman and craftsman, or the national industrialist and merchant.”

“This process has shown that the Turkish Armed Forces are determined to protect the national state and the gains of the Republican Revolution. External pressures, just like in the years of the War of Independence, have revealed the need to consolidate Turkish-Kurdish unity and have brought the 'Urgent Brotherhood Solution' to the agenda. Defending independence against the outside and secularism on the inside has inevitably ignited the democratic process. The process is undoubtedly volatile and contains setbacks from time to time. However, I trust that in this process, the Turkish Armed Forces will take a determined stance on the position of the national state and the Republican Revolution and will not surrender to imperialist pressures. I express this trust here, as I do everywhere.”

“The democratic solution to the Kurdish issue will accelerate not because of cooperation with the West, but because of taking a firm stance against the West. The Kurdish issue remains in limbo to the extent that there is cooperation with the West; the more decisively the practices that invite the West into the Kurdish issue are ended, the more democratic and rapid the solution will be. Because the main obstacle in the Kurdish issue is no longer the internal forces that do not accept the Kurdish reality, but the external forces that want to use the Kurdish issue against Turkey. The stronger the Turkish-Kurdish unity established against those external forces, the healthier the environment of trust will be, and democratic solutions will become current. If there are those who think of benefiting from the West's pressure on Turkey to solve the Kurdish issue, this means attempting to solve the problem by combining it with the threat against Turkey.”

“If we were to express it with mathematical formulas: Turk+Kurd = democratic solution.

West+Kurd = deadlock. The Turk+Kurd unity is against the threat from the West, just like in the War of Independence.

The West+Kurd formula, on the other hand, is against Turkey.

Under today's conditions, being on the side of the West actually means being against Turkey. It must have caught your attention as well, the West does not like being within the integrity of Turkey.”

“The PKK and HADEP must be disbanded. As long as these organizations, which are established on the basis of separate organizing, are protected, the option of separatism will be kept in reserve and brought to the agenda under suitable conditions. Western states do not give up on keeping this option available. Moreover, separate organizing inevitably serves separation. Therefore, the only expression of the desire for unity is the disbanding of the PKK and HADEP and entering into the practice of organizing together.”
