Downpours and thunderstorms are intensifying

According to the latest weather assessments, the sky across our country will be generally partly to mostly cloudy on Thursday, May 21. Intermittent downpours and thunderstorms will be seen in many parts of the country. It has been reported that these rains may be severe at times, particularly in most of the Marmara Region (excluding Edirne, Çanakkale, and Balıkesir), the interior parts of the Eastern Black Sea, the western parts of Southeastern Anatolia, the surroundings of Osmaniye, Kahramanmaraş, Niğde, Kayseri, Tokat, Kars, Ardahan, and Hakkari, as well as the northern and eastern parts of Adana.

Meteorological authorities advise citizens to be cautious against negative conditions such as flash floods, lightning, and disruptions to transportation in areas receiving precipitation.

WEATHER TEMPERATURES AND WIND CONDITIONS

It has been reported that temperatures will vary across different parts of the country. While temperatures are expected to rise by 3-5 degrees in the Mediterranean and Central Anatolia, a drop of 2-4 degrees is forecast for the Eastern Black Sea and Southeastern Anatolia. No significant temperature change is expected in other regions. The wind will blow from the north and northwest in the western regions, and will turn to the south in the east, blowing light to occasionally moderate.

BEWARE OF HEAVY DOWNPOURS

Authorities report that thunderstorms will be locally heavy during the day, especially in most of Marmara, the interior parts of the Eastern Black Sea, the west of Southeastern Anatolia, Osmaniye, Kahramanmaraş, Niğde, Kayseri, Tokat, Kars, Ardahan, and Hakkari, as well as the northern and eastern parts of Adana. It is stated that citizens and officials in these areas should take necessary precautions and be prepared for adverse conditions.

WEATHER BY REGION

The Marmara Region will wake up to a very cloudy sky. Intermittent downpours that may increase in intensity are expected in all provinces and districts except Edirne, Çanakkale, and Balıkesir. In Istanbul, it is predicted that the rainfall may be particularly strong during the morning and afternoon hours. The temperature will hover around 21°C in Istanbul and 23°C in Kırklareli.

A cloudy atmosphere will prevail across the Aegean Region. Short-term downpours and thunderstorms will occur in İzmir and Muğla during the afternoon. The temperature will be 24°C in Denizli and 17°C in Afyonkarahisar.

Intermittent downpours will be seen in the Mediterranean. Rainfall may intensify at times, especially in Osmaniye and Kahramanmaraş, and in the highlands of Adana. Antalya will have a relatively warm day with temperatures approaching 28°C. Burdur and Hatay are also among the regions that will receive rain throughout the day.

In Central Anatolia, thunderstorms may be seen across the region starting from the afternoon, especially in Kayseri and Niğde. The highest temperature expected in Ankara will be 21°C.

Downpours will mark the day in the Western Black Sea, and the intensity of the rain may increase in Düzce and Zonguldak during the morning and afternoon hours. The temperature in Bolu is forecast to be 18°C.

Strong downpours are expected in the Central and Eastern Black Sea, especially in Tokat and the interior parts of the Eastern Black Sea. The morning hours will be rainy in Artvin and Trabzon.

A cloudy and rainy day will be experienced throughout Eastern Anatolia. Caution is advised against effective downpours in the surroundings of Kars, Ardahan, and Hakkari. The temperature in Erzurum will reach up to 14°C throughout the day.

In Southeastern Anatolia, strong downpours and thunderstorms are forecast for the morning and afternoon hours, especially in the western provinces (Diyarbakır, Mardin, Siirt, Şanlıurfa). Rainfall is expected to intensify at times in Şanlıurfa.

The rainy weather expected to be effective across the entire country is estimated to continue throughout the week with regional changes. Citizens are advised to closely follow meteorological warnings and plan their daily activities accordingly.
