Dress code controversy at graduation: Governor's office launches investigation
The Kocaeli Governor's Office has appointed two inspectors to launch an investigation into reports that some high school students in Kocaeli were denied entry to their graduation ceremony on the grounds that they were wearing 'inappropriate clothing'.

It has been alleged that female students at Kocaeli Gebze Alaettin Kurt Anatolian High School were denied entry to their graduation ceremony by the school administration on the grounds that they were 'dressed immodestly'.
In a statement issued by the Kocaeli Governor's Office, it was stated: "Two education inspectors have been appointed by our Governor's Office to conduct the necessary investigations regarding the allegations and news reports appearing in some social media accounts and the press, which allegedly took place at a graduation ceremony at a school in our Gebze district. The matter is being investigated in all its aspects."

In a statement made by the Eğitim-İş Union Kocaeli Branch, the following remarks were included:
''Today, it was shared on social media by parents that our female students were not allowed to attend the graduation ceremony at Gebze Alaattin Kurt Anatolian High School on the grounds of their clothing. In the research we conducted as a union, it was found that, using the attendance of protocol members as an excuse, the school administration wanted to see the students' outfits days in advance, and it was stated that only students whose outfits were approved would be included in the program. At the program held today, students whose outfits were not deemed appropriate by the school administration were not allowed in and were kept waiting in front of the school gate. This practice is one that does not befit the secular Republic of Turkey, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Such practices, which remind one of or even rival the February 28 process, do not serve the country's social peace and have added a new one to the meaningless debates and practices that have been carried out over women's clothing for years. We demand that the necessary investigation into those responsible be opened immediately without delay."
