Driver caught in earthquake while in his car: I thought someone was shaking the vehicle

A citizen in Alanya who was caught in his car during the 4.8-magnitude earthquake centered in the Gazipaşa district of Antalya said he initially thought someone was shaking his vehicle and only realized it was an earthquake when he got out.

While the earthquake was felt in the Gazipaşa, Alanya, and Serik districts, as well as in Konya and Mersin, causing some citizens to rush out of their homes in fear, the Antalya Governor's Office stated: "A 4.8-magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of our Gazipaşa district at 22:13. There have been no reports of any negative incidents so far. Our field inspections are ongoing."

Alanya District Governor Dr. Fatih Ürkmezer stated that there were no negative reports reaching the Police, Gendarmerie, Metropolitan Municipality, or Alanya Municipality teams, adding, "Furthermore, our units have contacted all our neighborhood heads (muhtars) and are continuing field operations as a precaution.

I would like to convey my best wishes to all our citizens regarding the earthquake. We also request that our citizens call 112 immediately in case of any negative situation," he said.

Ömer Göker, who was caught in the earthquake while visiting friends, said, "We felt a strong earthquake around 10:00 PM while sitting with friends. The whole building swayed; we were startled, it was a solid tremor that frightened us."

Mustafa Yılmaz, who was caught in the earthquake at a taxi stand, said, "I was waiting for a customer in the car when a very strong earthquake occurred around 10:00 PM. We were shaken inside the car; I even thought my friend was shaking it. When I asked around, I learned it was an earthquake."

Mevlüt Tokaç, who was also caught in the earthquake while in his car, said, "I was inside the car at that moment and got out; I was inevitably scared, and the children were scared too. We cannot prevent what will happen, but we must not let our guard down regarding precautions," he said.
