Driver's license renewal deadline extended

Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya announced via his social media account that the deadline for renewing driver's licenses has been extended.

In his statement, Yerlikaya used the following expressions:

“The DEADLINE for the renewal of old-type driver's licenses is October 31, 2025”

The deadline for the renewal process of old-type driver's licenses had previously been set as 31.12.2024, but due to the high demand, this period was extended by 7 months to 31.07.2025.

However

Following the extension decision on 18.11.2024, 16 thousand 329 of our citizens canceled their appointments within just one day.

The daily number of applications dropped from 55 thousand to 20 thousand.

70% of renewal applications took place in the last 3 months.

Application numbers by month are as follows:

January: 140,000

February: 82,000

March: 84,000

April: 101,000

May: 270,000

June: 502,000

July: 1,413,489

In the last 2 days alone (July 30-31), 236 thousand applications were received.

There are still 2 million 167 thousand 713 old-type driver's licenses waiting to be renewed.

For this reason, in order to prevent our citizens from experiencing any grievances, it has been decided to EXTEND the renewal period for old-type driver's licenses FOR THE LAST TIME. THERE WILL BE NO MORE EXTENSIONS

Deadline: October 31, 2025

I request this from our citizens. We see that applications decrease when an extension is granted. Please let us complete our procedures without waiting for the final days.
