Drivers take note: Those who miss this deadline will pay 7,000 TL instead of 15 TL!
Time is running out for holders of old-style driver's licenses. Driver's licenses not renewed by July 31, 2025, will be considered invalid. The processing fee, which is currently only 15 TL, will rise to 7,438 TL after this date. As Population Directorates issue warnings about congestion, they are calling for applications to be made early.

The driver's license renewal process, which concerns millions of drivers across Turkey, has reached a critical threshold. The General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs has warned approximately 3 million 211 thousand people who hold old-style driver's licenses: July 31, 2025, is the final day.
The licenses of those who do not apply by this date will become invalid. Furthermore, instead of today's 15 TL processing fee, they will be required to pay a full 7,438 TL for Class B driver's licenses.
HOW IS DRIVER'S LICENSE RENEWAL DONE?
Citizens who wish to renew their driver's license can make an appointment in three different ways:
- Alo 199 call center
- NVI mobile application
- www.nvi.gov.tr website
Following the appointment, applications are made to district population directorates with the necessary documents.
Required Documents:
- Old-style driver's license
- Payment receipt for the 15 TL processing fee
- A valid driver's health report obtained from a healthcare institution
- A biometric photo taken within the last 6 months
- Residential address information registered in the MERNİS system
NEW LICENSES ARE SENT TO THE ADDRESS
After all procedures are completed, the new driver's license is delivered to the citizen's address via PTT. During this period, a temporary driver's license is issued to allow continued driving. Citizens can access this document via e-Devlet or from the directorates.
CONGESTION WARNING ISSUED
Officials state that as the deadline approaches, there may be congestion at population directorates. It is stated that in order to avoid grievances due to this congestion, procedures should not be left to the last minute.
NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE SWITCHED TO NEW LICENSES EXCEEDS 32 MILLION
So far, 32 million 466 thousand 334 people have switched to the new type of driver's license. However, more than 3 million people are still driving with old licenses. It is of great importance for citizens to apply by July 31, 2025, so they are not affected by the high renewal fee.
