Drivers with car licenses may soon be able to use this as well

It has been claimed that a new regulation affecting millions of drivers is currently being worked on. According to the prepared draft, the way could be paved for Class B driver's license holders to operate motorcycles up to 250cc without obtaining an additional license.

MOTORCYCLE USAGE LIMIT IS BEING INCREASED

It has been suggested that preparations are underway for a new change in the field of transportation and traffic in Turkey. With a regulation introduced in 2023, Class B license holders were granted the right to use motorcycles up to 125cc. Now, there are plans to raise this limit.

According to a report by Sözcü, within the scope of a new draft reportedly being worked on by the Ministry of Interior, the goal is to increase the motorcycle usage limit for drivers who hold a car license to 250cc.

A2 LICENSE REQUIREMENT MAY BE LIFTED

Under current practice, an A2 class license must be obtained to operate a 250cc motorcycle. If the new regulation comes into effect, drivers with a Class B license could be exempted from the requirement to obtain an additional license and the associated procedures.

PRACTICAL DRIVING TEST REQUIREMENT ON THE AGENDA

It is stated that the regulation will not mean "automatic transition without an exam." According to the draft, drivers who wish to extend their Class B license to cover the use of 250cc motorcycles will need to pass a motorcycle practical driving test conducted by the Ministry of National Education.

It is stated that drivers will be exempted from the theoretical exam and will only take the practical test.

YEAR-END TARGETED

It is being discussed that the expected amendment to the Highway Traffic Law could be enacted in the final quarter of the year.
