Drug operation in 63 provinces

In operations carried out across Turkey as a result of two weeks of work by gendarmerie teams, a total of 1 ton 343 kilograms of narcotics and over 178 thousand drug pills were seized; 162 people were arrested.

Significant steps have been taken against drug dealers in large-scale operations organized nationwide by gendarmerie teams. In simultaneous raids conducted in a total of 63 provinces from Antalya to Istanbul and from Diyarbakır to Edirne over the last two weeks, 424 suspects were apprehended. While 162 of those captured were arrested by the courts, judicial control decisions were issued for 70 others. It was reported that proceedings for the remaining suspects are ongoing.

Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya shared the following information regarding the operations in a statement on social media:

'In our operations organized by our gendarmerie against 'drug dealers' in 63 provinces over the last 2 weeks; we seized one ton 343 kilograms of narcotics and 178 thousand 615 drug pills, preventing them from being supplied to people and harming public health. We apprehended 424 suspects, 162 were arrested, and judicial control provisions were applied to 70. Proceedings for the others are continuing.'

A total of 4 thousand 644 narcotics and public order teams took part in these operations, which were carried out under the coordination of the Gendarmerie Department of Anti-Narcotic Crimes and the Offices of the Chief Public Prosecutor. The number of personnel involved reached 14 thousand 924.
