A 4.1 magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of the Çınarcık district of Yalova. The earthquake was felt in surrounding provinces, primarily Istanbul.
WILL IT TRIGGER AN ISTANBUL EARTHQUAKE?
Geologist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür stated, "The system in the Marmara is accumulating tension."
Görür's statement is as follows:
"Friends, a 4.1 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Çınarcık Basin of the Sea of Marmara. I suspect the earthquake may have occurred on small normal faults south of the Adalar Fault. This will be clarified by the fault solution. I am posting the fault map. The system in the Marmara is accumulating tension, with love."

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ercan, who made a statement on the subject, said, "It is a normal release of tension. It will not bring the expected Istanbul earthquake forward. There is no problem."
Another assessment on the subject came from Prof. Dr. Tüysüz. In a broadcast on NTV, Tüysüz stated that the earthquake has no connection to the expected major Istanbul earthquake. However, he underscored that the tremor serves as a reminder.
