Earthquake-focused warning from Ahmet Ercan to prospective homebuyers: 'Do not buy in places like these'

Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan, who actively uses his social media account to provide information to citizens regarding earthquakes occurring in many parts of Turkey, occasionally shares striking observations and warnings about daily life as well.

Reminding us that we must constantly keep Turkey's earthquake reality in mind, Ercan once again listed provinces and districts with earthquake risks in his latest social media post, warning citizens who are considering buying homes in these areas.

Starting his post with the note 'I am warning you,' Ahmet Ercan stated the following:

"I AM WARNING YOU

In cities such as Tire, Ödemiş, Torbalı, Aydın Efeler, Manisa, Turgutlu, Kemalpaşa, İzmir-Bayraklı, the Bornova plain, the Menemen plain, İnciraltı, Bostanlı, Alaybey, Mavişehir, Çiğli, Balıkesir, Afyonkarahisar, İzmit, Istanbul-Ataköy, Yeşilköy, Haramidere, Bakırköy Yeşilyurt, Avcılar, Büyükçekmece, Beylikdüzü-Dalyan, Pınarkent, Gürpınar, Esenyurt, Küçükçekmece, Kağıthane, Zeytinburnu, the Tuzla coast, Kocaeli-Gölcük, Düzce, Kaynaşlı, Bolu, Adapazarı, Tekirdağ, Bandırma, Yalova, Adana, Çukurova, Ceyhan, Mersin, Erzincan, Tokat, Amasya, Bursa-Nilüfer, Osmangazi, Yıldırım, and Muğla-Fethiye; multi-story buildings constructed on wet, loose, first-degree fertile agricultural land will amplify the shaking three to five times during an earthquake, causing the structure to bounce; furthermore, they will undergo excessive oscillation due to resonance, and those that cannot withstand this will face collapse.

Please do not purchase homes in such places, and do not rent them either.

Request the SITE-STRUCTURE SAFETY CERTIFICATE of the building you are interested in. If it is negative, walk away.
