Earthquake warning of magnitude 6.5 from Ahmet Ercan!

Commenting on the 4.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the Bayındır district of İzmir, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ercan issued a warning for a potential 6.5 magnitude earthquake.

A 4.2 magnitude earthquake occurred yesterday (October 18) in the Bayındır district of İzmir. According to AFAD data, the earthquake, which occurred at a depth of 7 kilometers, was felt in İzmir as well as in some districts of Manisa.

Following the earthquake in the region, eyes turned to earthquake experts.

EARTHQUAKE WARNING OF 6.5 FROM AHMET ERCAN

Sharing on his X account, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ercan warned that this region has the potential to produce a 6.5 magnitude earthquake. Ercan stated the following:

"The M4.3 earthquake in Yakacık, Bayındır, İzmir, which occurred at a depth of 10.5 kilometers, is a collapse earthquake. This region can produce an M6.5. However, there is no information indicating that this small earthquake is a foreshock."


'THE REGION IS UNDER TENSION'

Prof. Dr. Naci Görür made evaluations on his social media account following the earthquake. Görür stated, "There was a 4.3 earthquake in Yakacık-Bayındır/İzmir. The earthquake is within the Küçük Menderes Graben and on the northern flank of the graben. As you know, this region is under N-S tension. Earthquakes of this magnitude occur from time to time.
