City planner Tayfun Kahraman, who is being held in Silivri Prison as part of the Gezi Park trial, issued a statement for Eid al-Fitr. Kahraman noted that he celebrated the holiday with CHP's presidential candidate and İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, stating that 'despite the injustices and oppression, their consciences are clear.'
In the message he shared via social media, Kahraman included the following remarks:
''Greetings to everyone from Silivri. Unfortunately, I celebrated the holiday within these four walls with my fellow city planner colleagues whom I haven't seen for many years, my work and fellow travelers, and Ekrem İmamoğlu, with whom I am honored to walk together. Despite all the injustices and oppression, our consciences are clear. Because we produced for our country, worked for our nation, and looked after our Istanbul like the apple of our eye.
Now, we are strong and hopeful with the warm feelings of solidarity from the millions whose hearts are with us.
I wish for Eid al-Fitr to bring peace, tranquility, and justice to our country. I believe that this holiday will be the last one I spend away from my daughter Vera, my family, my students, and my work.''
Kahraman's lawyers stated that the process regarding their client's request for release is ongoing.
